United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) extends TPS Status for Eligible National of El Salvador

Defense Attorney Raymond Lahoud announced this week that the Department of Homeland Security has extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to eligible nationals of El Salvador. Lahoud, an associate at Baurkot & Baurkot’s Pennsylvania Office, stated “that DHS has made a good decision in extending TPS for eligible Salvadorians for an additional eighteen (18) months, beginning March 10, 2012, and ending September 9, 2013.”

Using the powers as the Secretary of Homeland Security, Secretary Janet Napolitano, ordered the extension, but required current Salvadoran TPS beneficiaries seeking to extend their TPS status to re-register during the sixty-day re-registration period that runs through March 12, 2012.

The 18-month extension also allows TPS re-registrants to apply for a new Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Eligible Salvadoran TPS beneficiaries who re-register on time will receive a new EAD with an expiration date of Sept. 9, 2013. In the event that re-registrants may not receive their EADs until after their current EADs expire, DHS also decided to automatically extend the current TPS El Salvador EAS bearing an early-2012 expiration date for an additional six (6) months.

Attorney Lahoud “urges those who are eligible for re-registration to do so as soon as possible, so that any issues that may arise when re-registering can be quickly resolved.”
