BREAKING: Immigration Agents Conduct Raids Across New Jersey. Many Arrested.

Hundreds of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents converged on 13 counties throughout New Jersey on Monday, in the largest immigration enforcement action in the state’s history.  Nearly 100 immigrants were arrested in raids conducted in Atlantic, Bergan, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Passaic, Union, and Warren counties.  Those arrested were from 28 countries, including Cameroon, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Korea, Mexico, Nicaragua, Philippines, Peru, Trinidad, and Venezuela.

In a statement ICE released following the raids, Newark’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Director John Tsoukaris praised the raids and arrests as “remarkable results.”  Newark Director Tsoukaris followed this with a clear message: no one is exempt from immigration enforcement:

ICE Director Thomas Homan has made clear, ICE does not exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement.  All of those in violation of the immigration laws may be subject to immigration arrest, detention and, if found removable by final order, removal from the United States.

It is crucial that all New Jersey immigrants are proactive, know their rights, and ensure those rights are protected.
