Breaking: Real Housewives of New Jersey Husband is Moving to Immigration Detention Facility

Immigration Court

ABC-7 New York reported yesterday that Joe Giudice–husband of Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice–has been released from federal prison and is on his way to a federal immigration detention facility, where he will await the decision of an appeal of an Immigration Court order deporting Giudice to his native Italy.

According to ABC-7 sources, Giudice will “be transferred directly to an immigration detention center, and will be facing deportation to Italy. The transfer is expected to happen Thursday in Allentown, Pennsylvania.”

Giudice immigrated to the United States from Italy when he was a child as a lawful permanent resident, or “green card” holder. Running on the incorrect assumption that “permanent resident” really meant “permanent,” Giudice never went through the process of becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States. Therefore, his conviction triggered civil deportation proceedings with ICE alleging, now successfully, that Giudice was convicted of a crime that immigration law refers to as an “aggravated felony”–a deportation “deathtrap.” Giudice’s conviction gave him little hope of avoiding deportation from the United States, absent a showing that Giudice fears returning to beautiful Italy because of persecution or torture at the hands of the Italian government.

In October of 2018, the Immigration Court at York, Pennsylvania, ordered Giudice deported to Italy. He appealed to the Board of Immigration Appeals in Arlington, Virginia. The appeal is pending. Giudice will remain in immigration custody, without bail, pending the outcome of the appeal.
