Effective May 1 Redesigned Green Cards will be Issued

Earlier this month the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that the redesigned Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card) and Employment Authorization Document (EAD) will be issued beginning May 1, 2017. The redesign is part of the Next Generation Secure Identification Document Project, which incorporates enhanced security features.
The redesigned Green Card displays the card-holder’s photo on both sides, shows an image of the Statue of Liberty and predominately green palette, has embedded holographic images, and no longer displays the individual’s signature or an optical stripe on the back.

The new EAD displays the card-holder’s photo on both sides, shows an image of the bald eagle and a predominately red palette, has embedded holographic images, and no longer displays the individual’s signature.  The existing Green Cards and EADs will remain valid until the expiration date shown on the card.
